Chateau de Barbet is situated on top of a hill in the department of Gers in the Midi Pyrenees. It is gorgeously renovated and surrounded with 180 luxurious villas. Many of these villas are let as holiday residences and some of the villas are still for sale. The park was completed in 2007 and has many facilities for the residents and tenants. Some of the facilities are our swimming pools, tennis courts, fitness room and saunas. Right next to our residence is a 9 hole golf course where you can golf seven days a week. Complimenting all these facilities is a restaurant which is situated in the Chateau. ‘Le Petrarque’ offers a variety of eating options. The department of Gers is situated in the south of France and its environment is calm, wide and full of culture. It also offers plenty of options for our sporting guests. There are many small restaurants available in the area where you can enjoy everything that the countryside has to offer.
Tranquility
Time has stopped ticking in this region of the south of France. People still have time for each other and they enjoy life. Relaxing is not an issue it is a way of life. You will feel that it doesn’t take much time to come to rest. It is for this reason that more and more visitors establish themselves in this region. Another reason is that the French are very kind and welcoming.
Landscape
‘The Tuscany of France’ People who are familiar with both regions will know that this comparison is true. A landscape of hills that is characterized by the colours of nature and her farmers. In summer the hills change colour to yellow because of the sunflower fields. When you go from village to village you will be surprised by the views and the large variety of wildlife which lives in this region. Driving by car or cycling is an absolute delight. The climate is lovely. The sun is brightens up life in every season. The boundry of Gers in the south is the Haute Pyrenees. These are the French/ Spanish highlands and it is just an hour away from Lombez. This is an impressive and worthwhile visit for walkers and cyclists alike.
Culture
When you look at the Gers historically it is a crossing between the North and South of Europe. The region is part of the pilgrimages of Saint Jaques de Compostelle. This part of history has determined the architecture of churches and cathedrals in the area. The absolute highlights are the Cathedral Saint Marie in Auch and the Saint Sernin in Toulouse. Especially the latter is a leader in art history and is really worth a visit. Toulouse is situated a 30 minute drive from Chateau de Barbet and is also called ‘Petit Paris’. The city is less well known for tourism than Barcelona and Berlin but never the less it’s lovely to wander around all the sights and to relax on one of the terraces. If you stay longer, you can also visit Carcasonne, Albi, Lourdes and Pau. These cities are situated within a 1.5 hour drive.
Sports and leisure
Golfing Our park is popular amongst golf lovers. Next to our park is a beautiful 9 hole golf course. You can walk from your villa directly to the golf course. You will also find another eight golf courses within a radius of 30 to 40 kilometers. These golf courses vary widely in their settings from woodland to hilly to flat and open. Cycling Cycling is very popular in France. The Gers is ideal for both the sports and the leisure cyclist. The landscape varies from flat to very hilly. Some hills have an incline of 12%. There are other less strenuous routes for the leisure cyclist. These routes are well prepared and for groups special arrangements can be made. Another option is a day cycling in the Pyrenees. Due to the options available more and more cycling clubs are choosing stay at our park.
Walking What we have for cyclists we also have for hikers. It is possible to start your walking tour directly from the park as well as from other places in the neighbourhood. A growth industry is Nordic Walking. We can receive these hikers in both organized and non organized groups. Please check our special arrangements.
Other options in the area are canoeing, canyoning, skiing, hang gliding etc.
Leisure In high season we have a professional entertainment team for our younger guests. We also have a mini golf and a Petanque court.
There is a survival park within driving distance of our park. This is an attraction for every age. There is also a safari park and the zoo of Plaisance de Touch. Quad driving is possible in Auch. They have a piece of land of 100 ha. Apart from all this the area offers several lakes where you can go swimming, water bicycling, sailing etc. Our reception will be very happy to inform you about all the activities.
Culinary We are fortunate to have a restaurant Gastronomique located on our park. You can enjoy the specialties of the region in the ambiance of the chateau. The clubhouse of the golf course is another option if you prefer a smaller menu. Even if you don’t golf you are very welcome to visit. Once a week they organize a barbeque and a Table d’Hôte menu in the clubhouse. You will also find many options for traditional food in the surrounding areas.
